The SJC Athletics Complex, which was completed in 2017, includes an artificial turf-surfaced and lighted field, an eight-lane track, a storage facility for equipment and a satellite athletic training room, and on-site parking. The Complex was the first lighted turf/ track college venue in Southern Maine and hosts soccer, track & field, and lacrosse games regularly. In addition to completing the sitework, R. J. Grondin & Sons built the turf field and parking area for this $5M project.
When the College decided to expand the Complex to include an outdoor track & field section in 2021, they worked with Team Grondin to make it happen. During Phase 2 of this project, Grondin was responsible for the completion of fields for 4 different events – javelin, shotput, discuss/hammer throw, and long/triple jump. Each of these areas needed to be completed to NCAA standards for competition, under a short schedule to allow competition to be held in the same year as construction. The Grondin crews got right to work, and delivered the project ahead of schedule and on budget.
