The University Commons building and outdoor lawn area is the new central meeting space for the University of New England’s Biddeford Campus, which sits right on the waterfront of the Saco River. The new building has amenities such as multiple dining services, study areas, meeting areas, and many academic and career services. The location of this building is between two existing buildings so work had to be scheduled and coordinated to create minimal disruption to the existing operations of the campus. R.J. Grondin & Sons did all the excavation and backfill for the new building foundation for the general contractor doing the building work. All underground utilities such as drainage, sewer, water and gas were extended from existing nearby locations. The project also includes some beautiful landscaping with granite walkways and seating near the waterfront with spectacular views. The project was completed on time and within budget.
