Job Description
R.J. Grondin & Sons is currently looking for a qualified Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join the team. Diagnose, adjust, repair, and overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment such as bull dozers, graders, excavators, conveyors, crushers, and heavy haul trucks all used in the construction and surface mining industry.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
- Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools
- Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges
- Keep detailed service records on equipment, vehicles and trucks
- Operate all types of mobile equipment safely to determine best method to repair
- Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Working under or on large mobile equipment requiring the ability to
- Climb up and down ladders
- Lift objects up to 50 pounds
- Use wrenches and bars to break apart sections of equipment, or loosen bolts and clips for access to different components on a piece of equipment
- Attention to detail
- Work under time constraints to diagnose problems with equipment
- Be able to read and understand manufacture’s manuals and specs
- Interpret what a machine or truck is doing vs. manufacturer’s suggested settings
Additional experience:
- Maine state inspection license is a plus
- 3-5 years of heavy equipment and truck maintenance experience
